Donna Ockenden’s report into “toxic” maternity services at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is the latest in a long list of inquiries exposing failings in England’s maternity services.
Aside from the devastating fact that hundreds of mothers and babies suffered harm or died because of failures, perhaps one of the most disturbing findings is the depressingly familiar theme in NHS maternity scandals of “cover-up” and “victim-blaming”.
In her report, Ockenden writes in bold, with an exclamation mark, that this “culture of compounding of harm needs to stop!”.
Despite plenty of policies and pledges from governments and the NHS, the data reveals a worrying picture of the UK’s maternity services. (ITV News/YT)
