Is a Power Outage Planned?

Apparently, state-controlled media in some countries—i.e. Germany and Austria—are warning of a blackout (general power outage) this winter which could last up to two weeks. They recommend stocking up on food, water, candles, torches and batteries and having an alternative heat source ready. When the electricity falls out, practically nothing will work, such as banks, ATMs, supermarkets, petrol stations, electrically operated water pumps etc. With minus temperatures, this could lead to a nightmare scenario.

In the UK there is no warning campaign to ensure that the population is sufficiently prepared for a possible power cut. However, there are some hints in the mainstream media about energy cuts and an increase in energy costs this winter:
