At least 10 people in Japan have died from brain clots after being given the vaccine; it is “possibly” the cause, even though brain bleeding—intracranial hemorrhage (ICH)—has not been listed as an adverse reaction, say researchers at the Kagawa University Hospital.
The Pfizer vaccine—tozinameran—is the only covid jab that has been approved for use in Japan, and around 1.21 million people had had their first shot by the middle of April. Japan’s drug regulator, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), has reported 10 deaths from ICH, and cases have also been reported by US regulators.
The researchers are urging the MHLW to issue a warning that the Pfizer jab could also cause thrombosis, and there should be careful monitoring after the vaccine has been administered.
