From Mary Talley Bowden, M.D.
I am writing to you as a concerned medical professional, worried about the future of your medical care.
On the Governor’s desk now, threatening a physician’s decision-making made in conjunction with a private patient, is AB 2098. He received it on Friday, and has 15 days to sign. Or not. If this bill is signed into law, you will lose access to critical information required to make the best medical decisions for you and your family.
AB 2098 designates the dissemination or promotion of misinformation or disinformation related to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, or “COVID-19,” as unprofessional conduct. (It does not define what is “misinformation” or “disinformation.” https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/facesbillNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB2
098)
As a patient, you have rights to full informed consent prior to any medical intervention or therapeutic use. Furthermore, you have the right to access and try novel or off label treatments, if you and your doctor determine this is the best choice for you. AB2098 will strip you of those rights.
Many patients are already feeling abandoned or violated by the medical system since the onset of this pandemic. With AB2098 governing medical practice in Ca, medical professionals will NOT be allowed to provide the critical information needed for you to make informed decisions. If physicians are silenced, patients will be
harmed.
It is essential the Governor hears from, We, the people. Make it a priority to contact Newsoms office immediately and let him know where you stand.
Let Governor Newsom know you oppose this bill.
