“Three quarters of England will be plunged into Tier 4 from tonight with most of the country now living in some form of lockdown. Matt Hancock today put a further 20 million people into the toughest Tier 4 and upgraded millions to Tier 3. No areas will remain Tier 2. Boris Johnson warned of a new ‘reality’ with mutant Covid rampant tonight as he plunged virtually the whole of England into brutal lockdown until the Spring – with the UK recording 981 deaths in the worst daily toll since April and vaccines the only hope of escape. Meanwhile, British MPs are debating the lockdown restrictions. Senior Tory MP Desmond Swayne has blamed the British government for it’s request to “give retrospective approval to the changes they made”. Sir Desmond Swayne began by telling: “We are in the absurd position of being asked to vote for the ghost of Christmas past. This House legislated for specific arrangements to cover in the celebration of Christmas and no sooner had the House risen, the government by ministerial fiat changed those arrangements”.
