A Small Win for Humanity

By Hugh Williams

Early last August, I suddenly found myself talking to an AI phone answering system provided by my pension company. The voice at the other end called itself Bonnie; it pretended to be human but said it was not.

I found the experience very unnerving and so I wrote and complained to the company. In all I sent them three letters of complaint, none of which were acknowledged, let alone answered. And so I have charged them with shockingly bad customer service on top of my original complaint.

With no reply coming I referred the matter to the Financial Ombudsman and have just had an email from them saying that my pension company will pay me £300 BUT, far more importantly, Bonnie has been switched off!

I hope that I don’t come a cropper as I jump for joy over this small victory against the worrying world of AI.
