A research from Together, reported recently on the front page of the Telegraph, shows that over 100 local councils have made anti-democratic pledges to “beat” the Government’s own Net Zero targets, to an organisation called UK100 – which is bankrolled by “green” billionaires – without consulting voters.
Together has launched a new campaign to fight against UK100 in your town:

Step 2: Open up a quick email to your local councillor(s)
- Go to the WriteToThem website and type in your postcode
- The website will show you who your local councillor(s) are
- If you are unsure which councillor(s) to write to, look at the
- notes on the left hand side
- Click the ‘Write to them’ link to open up a blank email
- Alternatively you can find your local councillors through the Government website here.
Step 3: Send your message
Use or adapt the relevant template below (always best if you can tweak to write something unique!)
Template A – Use if your council is signed up to UK100
I was extremely concerned to read in the press that the council has signed up with an organisation called UK100, and in so doing has pledged to “beat” the Government’s own Net Zero targets in our area?
The impending loss of 3,000 jobs at Port Talbot shows starkly the dreadful damage now being done to local communities by Net Zero policies. Anti-driver policies are also causing great damage. We might ask exactly whose interests are served by intensifying such policies?
The recent report (https://togetherdeclaration.org/report) by Together, ‘”Clean” Air, Dirty Money, Filthy Politics’ exposes how UK100 – though virtually no voters will ever have heard of it – is extremely well-funded by a few “green” billionaires. Reportedly it even pays to place “political consultants” within councils. This is a scandal.
Given that the council cannot point to any kind of democratic mandate whatsoever for making this pledge to UK100 I would like to know when it will be rescinding it?
Template B – Use if your council is not signed up to UK100
I was extremely concerned to read in the press that many councils around the UK have signed up with an organisation called UK100, and in so doing have pledged to “beat” the Government’s own Net Zero targets, despite having no democratic mandate to do anything of the kind (see article: (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/01/06/councils-undemocratic-pledges-beat-governments-net-zero/).
The recent report (https://togetherdeclaration.org/report) by Together, ‘”Clean” Air, Dirty Money, Filthy Politics’ shows how UK100 is extremely well-funded by a few “green” billionaires. UK100 reportedly even pays to place “political consultants” within councils. This is a scandal.
Could you please confirm that the council will not be making any such pledge to this organisation UK100, or others like it?
Step 4: Post on social media
Use our text below – or write your own.
Important: please add the tag for your local council / councillors so they get a notification.
For example, “Today I wrote to our local council @Brent_Council”.
Note: the tags below work for Twitter – they may need adjusting/not work on other platforms.
Template A – Use this kind of message if your council is signed up to UK100
Today I wrote to my local council
Why have they anti-democratically pledged to billionaire-funded @UK100_ to “beat” Govt’s own Net Zero targets?
You have no mandate for this pledge – rescind it
@LGAComms @togetherdec @uklabour @conservatives
Template B – Use this kind of message if your council is not signed up to UK100
Today I wrote to my local council
I asked them to confirm they won’t anti-democratically pledge to billionaire-funded @UK100_ to “beat” Govt’s own Net Zero targets, as some other councils have
It’s a scandal
